Healthy?
I have this recipe in a book (Super Baby Food) that's supposed to be full of healthy toddler recipes. Case in point:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
1/2 c. honey
1/2 c. creamy natural peanut butter
1 c. nonfat dry milk powder
1 c. ground rolled oat flakes
Mix all ingredients and shape into balls. Store covered in refrigerator.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Is it me, or does the fat and sugar in this far outweigh the benefits of the calcium, protein, and fiber? They are yummy, I have to say, but almost too sweet even for me. I think that if I make this recipe again I'll substitute part of the honey with mashed banana or something ... anyway, I just thought it was funny because it's supposed to be totally healthy and 1/2. c. peanut butter has 1,680 calories and 128 g of fat, and honey is pure sugar - 1/2 c. is like 960 cal. and 256 g of sugar. Even divided into 12 servings, that's a lot of not-so-healthy stuff in there! (Especially for little toddler bodies, and of course babies can't have honey anyway.)
